Her grandmother was insane. Her father was the Holy Roman Emperor. Her husband was her double first cousin. And she was the only woman ever to become a Jesuit.

A historical drama based on the extraordinary true story of Juana of Austria’s journey from dutiful teenage bride to Regent of Spain and Jesuit novice. The political and spiritual conflicts of the Renaissance form the backdrop to this story of one young woman’s religious fervor and furtive rebellion.

Run time: 100 minutes, including intermission

Development History: Commissioned by the Loud & Unladylike Festival in San Francisco, who presented a reading of it in Summer 2016. Cast: Kitty Torres (Juana), Ryan Engstrom (Joao Manuel/Don Carlos), Jeremy Cole (Father Borja), Matt Gunnison (Duke of Alba), Alandra Hileman (Catalina/La Loca). Director: Claire Rice.
